Tricia O’Connell
Assistant Principal

I am honored and excited to be part of the administrative team at Smart’s Mill Middle School and working with the students, parents, staff, and community as assistant principal. I enjoy working with middle schoolers and especially like being part of guiding and developing this unique group of students as they grow academically, physically, and socially over three short years.
This is my ninth year with Loudoun County Public Schools and my second as assistant principal. I was part of the charter group who opened Smart’s Mill in 2004 and have taught 6th and 7th grade language arts along with working as a grade-level dean – all at Smart’s.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Communications and English from Rutgers College in New Jersey. A Masters of Business Administration from Sul Ross University in Texas, along with earning a second Masters in Education Leadership from George Mason University.
I am a parent of three children, all of whom have attended or are attending Loudoun County Public Schools. Currently, my daughter is a senior at the College of William and Mary, my son is a sophomore at Radford University, and my youngest daughter is a senior at Loudoun County High School. As a parent, I value the high quality education Loudoun County provides all its students and I truly believe that both family and community support are necessary in order for all our children to reach their fullest potential. I look forward to continue working with the Smart's Mill school community to ensure success for all our middle schoolers.
I am available at any time to help you or your child with any questions or concerns. Please call Smart's at (571)252-2030 or contact me at patricia.oconnell@lcps.org
