 CAMPUS
 
The mission of the Loudoun County Public Schools CAMPUS Program Program is to provide students from historically under-represented groups in higher education and prospective first generation college students with the academic and personal support to achieve college admission and matriculation.
 
 CAMPUS Standards, Goals & Objectives

All CAMPUS students are expected to:

·         maintain or improve academic performance during their 4 years in high school

·         have no significant disciplinary infractions during their 4 years in high school

·         have no significant attendance issues during their 4 years in high school

·         maintain high moral character at all times

·         attend CAMPUS classes and events regularly

·         attend at least one college campus visit per year

·         complete all projects/activities assigned by the CAMPUS facilitator

Below, are examples of types of topics that may be covered at each grade level for a student in CAMPUS. The topics are subject to change and are given so that you have an idea of what may be covered during a students high school career, if selected into the CAMPUS program.

9th grade CAMPUS students are expected to:

·         understand how they learn best (learning styles)

·         learn and/or master an organizational system that works

·         learn time management strategies that work

·         learn or continue to employ successful study strategies, note-taking, and test taking stratgegies

·         improve writing skills

·         set goals in the areas of academics, leadership, community service and civic responsibility

·         understand how to calculate GPA and its importance to  college admissions

·         begin a portfolio of interests, options, activities, achievements, etc that will be used during all 4 years of high school

·         work  to understand the capability and functionality of Naviance (Family Connection)

·         complete “Do What You Are” in Naviance

·         attend LCPS College Fair and Diversity in Education College & Career Fair

10th grade CAMPUS students are expected to:

·         complete the “Career Interest Profiler” in Naviance

·         use the data from Naviance to begin exploring career options

·         complete “Game Plan” section in Naviance

·         begin working on the “Resume” section in Naviance

·         understand the importance of AP coursework

·         understand testing requirements and their importance (SOL’s, PSAT, SAT, AP)

·         understand the key components of a transcript and what the data means

·         continue to work on portfolios of interests, options, activities and achievements

·         continue to improve writing skills

·         review and revise goals in areas of academics, leadership, community service and civic responsibility

·         attend LCPS College Fair and Diversity in Education College & Career Fair

 

11th grade CAMPUS students are expected to:

·         understand how to link career options to college majors and how to search for colleges based on that information

·         identify important requirements of potential college options

·         complete college searches and create a list of colleges to apply to

·         visit as many of these potential colleges as possible

·         begin writing college essays, personal statements for critique

·         create a list of teachers/coaches/counselors  who may be used as references

·         complete practice college applications

·         begin to understand and research the financial aid process

·         continue to work on portfolios of interests, options, activities and achievements

·         update Resume, Game Plan sections of Naviance

·         attend LCPS College Fair and Diversity in Education College & Career Fair

·         review and revise goals in areas of academics, leadership, community service and civic responsibility

 

12th grade CAMPUS students are expected to:

·         review and revise goals in areas of academics, leadership, community service and civic responsibility

·         begin and complete the college application process

·         begin and complete the financial aid process

·         communicate college acceptances and rejections to guidance counselor
