5 Components of Fitness Study Guide
Key Terms: Cardiorespiratory Endurance, Flexibility, Muscular Strength, Muscular Endurance, Body Composition, Fat Mass, Resistance Training, Static Stretching, and Dynamic Stretching
Cardiorespiratory Endurance: building your cardiorespiratory endurance helps the heart supply oxygen to the body
Flexibility: the body's ability to move
Muscular Endurance: the muscles' ability to work for a long period of time (If the body can perform more than 12 repititions of an exercise, then the body has strong MUSCULAR ENDURANCE)
Resistance Training: an additional force is applied to a muscle or to a muscle group (*Resistance training helps build the body's Muscular Strength)
Fat Mass Does the following for the body: Insulate organs, absorb vitamins, provides the body a source of energy
Body Composition: the body should have 20% FAT and 80% MUSCLE (The body is thus made up of FAT MASS and FAT FREE MASS)
Muscular Strength: the ability to work the muscles to near maximal force
Static Stretching: stretching a muscle to the point of mild discomfort, while holding the position for an extended period of time (The body is in a stationary position)
Dynamic Stretching: moving parts of your body continuously while gradually increasing reach and speed through a full range of motion (The body is moving and warming up for an activity)
