  • It's Research Time!

Posted by Laura Haft at 12/6/2012
The past few months have flown by! We had a successful book fair in November, and all of the second quarter research projects are well under way. Several 6th grade language arts classes have come through for research lessons and to begin their innovations research projects, the 7th grade honors science students have been through to begin their genetics research, and the 8th grade sciences students are hard at work on their physical science research projects.

Remember, all of the online research resources students need are accessible through the library's VISION course, including the usernames and passwords to access the online subscription resources (databases) from home.

    Operation, Yes
Don't forget, author Sara Lewis Holmes will be visiting Farmwell on Friday. October 12! She's the author of Letters from Rapunzel and Operation Yes. The English department at each grade level has a class set of Operation Yes to share and we have some copies of each of her book in the library. Our book club is also reading her book Operation Yes as our October book!

  • Looking for the Graphic Novels?

Posted by Laura Haft at 9/17/2012
If you've visited the library lately, you may have noticed that the graphic novels are no longer in the 741.5 area of the nonfiction section. Check out our brand new Graphic Novel section!

    Manga Club

This week we'll be having our third meeting of what has become a regular Manga Lunch Bunch.  Last month we previewed some of the new graphic novels and manga to our collection to the students who attended, and this month we'll be doing more of the same as well as having a guest come to talk about drawing in the manga style with our students.

The second quarter research projects are winding down, but the library is still a busy place!  Stop by to check out a book, use the computer, or read in a comfy chair!

  • And on to December!

Posted by Laura Haft at 12/6/2011
November just flew by here in the library.  Thank you to all of the students, parents, and teachers who visited our book fair the week before Thanksgiving.

The second quarter is the time for research here at Farmwell, and we've been busy teaching lessons and having classes visit for research.  If you're working on research right now, remember to check out our Pathfinder page!  Whether you're working on a project for 7th grade honors science, 8th grade English, 8th grade science, or a biography project for your ELL teacher, we've got what you need on that page.

This week is also the first regular meeting of our brand new "Manga Lunch Bunch" club.  We've got a bunch of new graphic novels and manga to preview for them during lunch on Wednesday.

The library is also the home of our school's wish tree, so anyone who is interested in giving, stop by the library and sign up for an ornament off the tree.

  • November is here!

Posted by Laura Haft at 11/2/2011
It's hard to believe that it's November already!  We have lots going on in the library this month.

The big event in the library this month is Book Fair!  Farmwell's book fair this year will be held November 14-18 in the library.  This year for the first time we will also have an online extension to the Book Fair!  The online extension goes live for book ordering on November 7 through our Book Fair website!

Because the newest Diary of a Wimpy Kid book comes out the week of our Book Fair, we are also offering students the opportunity to pre-order the book, a paperback  edition of Cabin Fever, for $8.50.  The orders must be in to the library by this Friday, November 4, so that we can submit the order in time for the books to ship on the book's release date, November 15.  Students can get an order form from their language arts teacher or from the library.

We also have a new display up in the library this month, but you'll have to stop by the library to see what's "cookin'" in the library!

  • Teen Read Week Success

Posted by Laura Haft at 10/24/2011
Last week was a busy week in the library!

In our Books vs. Movie contest, the winners were:

    Holesthe movie!
    Lightning Thief - the book!
    Twilight - the movie!
Diary of a Wimpy Kid - the book!
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - the movie!

Our "Manga Munch" lunch was such a hit with the students that we will most likely start a regular manga lunch club so that students can meet during lunch to eat, draw, and talk about their favorite manga and graphic novels.

Our author visit with Kathryn Erskine was a big hit with students and teachers alike.  Ms. Erskine talked to students about how to be SASSY with their writing.
