Driver's Licensing Procedures

1.  When a student turns 15 and 6 months they are elligable for a Learner's Permit.
   - To get a learner's permit you go to the DMV and take the knowledge test.
   - You may access the Virginia Driver's Manual Online or wait and receive a copy from your Driver Education Teacher.

2. In order for a student to receive their license they must complete the following:

   A. Student's must hold their permit for 9 months, so the earliest they may receive their Driver's License is 16 and 3 months.
   B. The student must complete the classroom portion of Driver Education (All 10th grade students are enrolled in this and will take this during the first two marking periods.)
   C. Students must attend the Partner's for Safe Teen Driving presentation with a parent in order to pass the Classroom Portion of Driver Education. If they do not attend, their grade for the class will remain an incomplete and they will not receive a Classroom Completion card (which they must have for Behind the Wheel).
   D. Students must log 45 hours of Driving with their parents or a sibling over the age of 18. A minimum of 15 of these hours must be at night. The log can be found online or will be handed out during the classroom portion of Driver Education.
   E. During the last month of holding their permit students should take "Behind the Wheel".  This is a 14 hour instruction period in a vehicle.  You may register through the school OR through a private company.  If you register for the school, there is typically a 6-9 month waiting list, so we suggest you register as soon as your son or daughter has their permit and has attended a Partner's for Safe Teen Driving presentation.
