For the past two years, music teacher Jennifer Iodice and technology resource teacher Adina Popa at Potowmack Elementary (the school from which they will transfer to Steuart Weller) worked on an after school club for music composition. Students who attended were introduced to "Finale Notepad," a composition software that allows individuals to place music notation and play it back immediately. None of the attending students composed large pieces before their participation in this club. In 2007, Michelle Shiu's piece soon became outstanding, and upon its completion was submitted to the MENC/NSBA national competition. She won first prize! Michelle was recognized at the NSBA (National School Board Association) conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Below is her work:
