OotM

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.

In Odyssey of the Mind . . .
  • Students learn to work together and develop team-building skills.
  • Students learn to examine problems and to identify the real challenge without limiting the possible solutions and their potential success.
  • The creative-thinking process is nurtured and developed as a problem-solving tool.
  • Students of all types will find something that will appeal to them.
  • The fun of participation leads to an elevated interest in regular classroom curricula.

Please come out  and cheer our only Hutchison Farm Team performing  their Long Term Problem : "It's How You Look at It" at 12:25 p.m.  in the Choral Room.

Hutchison Farm had 8 teams compete at the annual Odyssey of the Mind tournament on March 9, 2013 at Tuscarora High School in Leesburg.  One of the teams placed 1st in their Division I category.  Over 100 teams from throughout Loudoun County participated in the tournament, and many of the parents from Hutchison Farm served as judges and volunteers for the big event. Our HFES teams represented their school with pride, enthusiasm, and creativity.  All of our teams had outstanding performances.

The team coached by Marie Tsuda and Brian Thomas won 1st Place in the Division IB – “It’s How You Look at It”.  This team will be moving on to the state competition at John Champe High School in Aldie, VA and competing there on April 13, 2013.  We wish them luck!
