Spring has sprung and I bet there’s not a student (or teacher!) at school who can’t tell you how many days of school are left this year! As exciting as the end of the school year is, we still have plenty of learning to do this year. Please help your students to come to school ready to learn each day. That includes being prepared with homework, being dressed appropriately, and getting a good night’s sleep! Thank you in advance for your support!

 

The month of May is dedicated to test preparation and testing at all grade levels. Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will be completing their SOL tests beginning May 6th. In addition to SOL testing, all grades will be completing the end-of-year DRA testing as well as grades K-2 completing their PALs assessments. These assessments help you to see the progress your students have made this school year as well as help us to make placement decisions for next school year. If you have any questions about these assessments, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.

 

As the year comes to a close, we are getting ready to elect a new PTA board for the 2013-2014 school year.  I would like to take a moment to give a HUGE Algonkian THANK YOU to our current board: Alyssa Lum, Christi Hendershot, Natascha Hunter, and Barbara Fontaine. In addition to the board, THANK YOUs also go to all of the committees and volunteers who ran and supported our events, fundraisers, assemblies, restaurant nights; staff appreciation… the list goes on and on.  This has been an incredible year and we, as a staff thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!

I would also like to extend my appreciation and well wishes to the staff that will be leaving us at the end of this school year:  Mrs. Michelle Acevedo, Mrs. Susan Elnicki, and Ms. Ellen Linza. We thank you for your service and love for our students here. You will all be missed!
