Read “The Mystery of Capital: Why Capitalism Works in the West and Fails Everywhere Else” by Hernando de Soto (2003). This book has a very interesting explanation of both why capitalism succeeds and the other things that are required for that success, such as the rule of law and property rights. This book is available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com and in the public library.

I will post discussion questions for you on my website approximately every two weeks beginning July 1. You are to e-mail me your answers within two weeks of my posting the questions. These answers will form the majority of your writing grade, which is 20% of the first quarter grade. I will post a sample document in Word that should be your template for your answers.
