Sterling Elementary School participated in a federal food services auditin April 2008 which resulted in recommendations on how we serve birthday treats for our students. Birthday treats will no longer be served during class lunch times. In order to minimize classroom disruptions and meet the needs of our students who suffer from food allergies, we are asking parents to please send in non-food items or healthy snacks for birthday treats. Unfortunately we will no longer be accepting cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and other sweets as birthday treats. Below is a list of recommendedations for your child’s birthday treat:
A Board game for the class to share (Candy Land, Connect Four)
Card games for the class to share (Go Fish, Old Maid)
Ice cream coupons purchased in the cafeteria
Individual Jell-O cups
Cheese and crackers
Please remember healthy treats need to be prepared and ready to be individually served. We appreciate your anticipated support as we move towards a safer and healthier environment for our students.
