Welcome to 8th grade! I am so excited to support your metamorphosis from chrysalis to beautiful butterfly. I am Virginia B. Stevens, M.Ed. I work with all special needs students here at Blue Ridge and in various environments. I have a Master's degree in Special Education (K-12) from West Virginia University. I have taught children with specific learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, and autism for nearly 25 years. I have an Autism Certificate from George Mason and am an active member of the Council for Exceptional Children. I am a published author. My book is titled Introducing Middle School ~ Transition Guide for Parents of Children with Special Needs. Most recently (September 2012) I have been published in the monthly periodical Autism/Aspergers Digest.
The most exciting aspect of my job is to watch students over time, grow and develop into mature, self-assured young adults. While academically, I do have many interests, such as Science, Language Arts, and History, I enjoy helping students organize. I believe it is a vital skill for a successful experience in middle school.
