Jon Covel is excited to be a new member of the Douglass staff. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, and then taught math at Harrisonburg High School for 8 years. Mr. Covel is a huge baseball fan andcoached JV and Varsity Baseball at Harrisonburg while he was teaching there. For the last 4 years, Jon has been teaching math and English in Bratislava, the capital of the Slovak Republic. He taught at the Evangelical Lyceum, a bilingual Slovak high school.
Mr. Covel is passionate about mathematics and believes in the importance of developing critical thinking and problem solving skills. He enjoys looking at the practical uses of math and showing how it applies to real world situations. He also likes to use creativity in his lessons, whether it’s going outside to take geometric measurements or singing math formulas as a means of remembering them.
