Administration of Justice I, weighted .5

Grades: 11 and 12                                                                        Credits: 3

Prerequisite: Competitive Application Process

 
The first year of a two year program. The curriculum prepares students for entry level employment in the law enforcement and criminal justice field.  The course is aligned with Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC).  The following NVCC courses will be taught:  ADJ 100-Survey of Criminal Justice (3cr); ADJ 211-Criminal Law, Evidence, and Procedures I; and ADJ 236-Principles of Criminal Investigation I(3cr).  This is a dual enrollment program with NVCC.  Students who satisfactorily complete this course will receive 9 college credits from NVCC.
 
Topics include: arrest procedures, corrections, criminal justice professions, law, ethics, crime scene investigation, crime prevention, criminal investigation and criminalistics, the crime laboratory, criminal and civil law, the rules of evidence, court system, first responder responsibilities, the history of policing, the juvenile justice system, oral and written communication skills, patrol, preparing for employment in the criminal justice field, search and seizure, search warrants, traffic accident investigation, traffic control, the use of force continuum and workplace readiness skills.   

Prerequisites: Compass Test and Competitive Application Process

Goals/Objectives: To earn college credit through the dual enrollment program with Northern Virginia Community College and to satisfy the Virginia Standards for competency-based education within the Criminal Justice subject area. Students will have the opportunity to earn workplace readiness skills certification.

Administration of Justice II

Grade 12                                                                                          Credits: 3

Prerequisite: Competitive Application Process

 

The second year of a two year program. The curriculum prepares students for entry level employment in the law enforcement and the criminal justice field.  The course is aligned with Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC).  The following NVCC courses will be taught:  ADJ 216-Organized Crime and Corruption (3cr); and ADJ 237-Principles of Criminal Investigation II(3cr). In addition, the program is in partnership with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office with an experimental learning program entitled "Lessons in Law Enforcement." The program will provide insight into law enforcement and is somewhat aligned to police academy curriculum. Administration of Justice II is a dual enrollment program with NVCC.  Students who satisfactorily complete this course will receive an additional 6 college credits from NVCC.  Adminstration of Justice I and II provide MTC students the opportunity to earn a total of 18 NVCC credits.
